Plot Summary




The movie begins with Kashinath (Sunny Deol), a simple and honest man who lives in a small village with his father (Kulbhushan Kharbanda), who is a freedom fighter. Kashinath falls in love with Gauri (Meenakshi Seshadri), the daughter of a local doctor (Om Puri). However, their happiness is short-lived as the village is terrorized by Katya (Danny Denzongpa), a cruel and powerful gangster who wants to acquire the land of the villagers for his own benefit. Katya and his men harass, torture and kill anyone who opposes him, including Kashinath's father.


Kashinath decides to take a stand against Katya and fight for his and the villagers' rights. He challenges Katya to a one-on-one fight, but Katya cheats and injures Kashinath severely. Kashinath's father dies of shock after seeing his son's condition. Kashinath and Gauri move to Mumbai to start a new life, but Katya follows them there as well. He tries to eliminate Kashinath by hiring a hitman named Shambhu (Tinnu Anand), but Kashinath survives the attack. He then meets Kashi (Amitabh Bachchan), an old friend of his father who runs a taxi service. Kashi helps Kashinath recover from his injuries and trains him to become stronger.


Kashinath then resumes his fight against Katya and his men, with the help of Kashi and other friends. He exposes Katya's illegal activities and corruption to the public and the media. He also rescues Gauri from Katya's clutches, who had kidnapped her to force Kashinath to surrender. In the climax, Kashinath confronts Katya in a final showdown, where he defeats him in a brutal hand-to-hand combat. He then kills Katya by throwing him off a building, avenging his father's death and freeing the villagers from his tyranny.


Cast and Crew




Ghatak features a stellar cast of actors who deliver memorable performances. Sunny Deol plays the role of Kashinath, the protagonist who fights against injustice and oppression.
